WILDCATS GRAB WIN VS. HALLSVILLE, 35-21

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats found the win column again Friday after a 35-21 win over the Hallsville Bobcats. After trailing 14-0 after the first quarter, the Wildcats stepped up their game the rest of the way, leading to the win. The game would be called early with 8:35 left in the fourth quarter due to lightning. After the Bobcats won the coin toss and elected to receive, they got the ball to start the game. The Wildcats seemed to get an early three and out, but a defensive pass interference penalty gave the Bobcats a free first down. Following another first down, the Bobcats improved their field position with a 30-yard pass. Two plays later, the Bobcats scored on a 17-yard touchdown pass. A successful extra point would give them a 7-0 lead. The Wildcats’ first drive got off to a strong start with a 12-yard catch from Jaxson Haire and a 13-yard run from Brady Driver. But from there, a pair of incompletions and a short run stalled the drive, forcing the Wildcats to punt. The Bobcats’ next drive was aided early by a face mask penalty. They would also get a boost with 12 and 13-yard catches. Four plays later, the Bobcats capped off a nine play drive with a four-yard touchdown run. A successful extra point increased the Bobcats’ lead to 14-0. The Wildcats’ ensuing drive started with several decent runs. After a 10-yard catch from Dee Rose-Luke, the first quarter ended, with the Bobcats ahead 14-0. The second quarter would begin with a roughing the passer penalty on Hallsville, giving the Wildcats good field position. Four plays later, the Wildcats got on the board when Driver connected with Skyler Lewis for a four yard touchdown pass. Eric Rodriguez added the extra point, as the Wildcats cut the score to 14-7. The Bobcats would see their drive be highlighted by a defensive penalty and a 16-yard pass. But after that, their drive stalled and they turned the ball over on downs. The Wildcats’ ensuing drive was highlighted by a 31-yard catch by Lewis. Four plays later, the Wildcats scored once again when Drive scored on a one-yard touchdown run. Rodriguez added the extra point, tying the score at 14-14. After forcing a three and out on the next drive, the Wildcats went to work with a two-minute drill before halftime. They would cap off a seven-play drive with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Driver to Wyatt Watson. Rodriguez added the extra point, as the Wildcats took a 21-14 lead. The Bobcats ran one more play before the first half ended, with the Wildcats on top 21-14. The Wildcats received the ball to begin the third quarter. Unfortunately, their drive last only one play, as Driver threw an interception, giving the ball to the Bobcats. Three plays later, the Bobcats score again on a three-yard touchdown run. A successful extra point tied the score at 21-21. The Wildcats would embark on a long drive when they got the ball back. After a 13-play drive, the Wildcats scored again when Driver found Watson for a 16-yard touchdown pass. Rodriguez once again added the extra point, giving the Wildcats a 28-21 lead.
